Press Release: Federal Judge Orders Stay on Military Vaccine Mandate

(Fairfax, Virginia) – The Alliance for Free Citizens, a national organization dedicated to restoring constitutional principles to government at all levels, today praised the action of the Judge Reed O’Connor, U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Texas. On Monday Judge O’Connor issued a stay in response to a lawsuit filed by First Liberty Institute on behalf of 35 active-duty SEALs and three reservists seeking a religious exemption from the Biden administration’s unconstitutional COVID-19 vaccine mandate for U.S. military personnel.

“Judge O’Connor, by issuing the stay, has defended the unalienable right to freedom of worship these warriors have sworn to protect,” said Joshua Pratt, Executive Director of the Alliance. “The intrusiveness of the federal government with these vaccine mandates infringes on all Americans’ civil liberties. These rights, as enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, have been defended by patriots like these service members through the centuries.”

The military personnel in the lawsuit are all members of various Christian denominations and they have objected to the vaccine mandate based on “their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

In his ruling Judge O’Connor wrote, “The Navy service members in this case seek to vindicate the very freedoms they have sacrificed so much to protect. The COVID-19 pandemic provides the government no license to abrogate those freedoms. There is no COVID-19 exception to the First Amendment.”

Later this week the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on the Biden vaccine mandates in an emergency session. A ruling is expected by Monday.
